The former Liverpool manager says coming back to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.

Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains an option. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-season tenure which brought Champions League success and the Premier League crown since 1990, has since taken on positions as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and providing guidance with the German Football League.

Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks

They secured the Premier League last season, but many fans holding him in high esteem would embrace the idea that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I said I won't manage any other side within the country. Therefore should it be the Reds...absolutely. It's plausible.”

“At 58 years old, that means I could make the decision later on, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”

Conditions for a Comeback

Questioned regarding which situations would need to occur to tempt his return to the dugout, he revealed he isn't eager to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing under bad weather through long matches; I don’t miss going to press conferences multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews weekly.

“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, however, dining out alongside the squad having a nice chat, is pleasant. With many victories thus frequently positive atmosphere in the building. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears to illustrate.”

Commending Arne Slot

He commended of the current boss, praising him for the adjustments that took the title in the previous season. They've been defeated four in a row in all competitions after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the idea that it might signal the start of a downward turn.

“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they will be fine.”

Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward

The manager expressed deep feeling regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, and its impact on Liverpool. The Portugal international was killed in a car crash together with his sibling this past summer.

“How do you replace somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the dressing room missing him. I find it difficult to discuss about it. A profound tragedy for his teammates also. No one within the club will ever use it as an excuse though it's a fact. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Coping with it individually is challenging. Impossible.”
