New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” the coach said. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”

Authorities released video stills earlier this week of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries according to reports.

The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning near the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking “constantly” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a baby.

“The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive this season, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in March and was expected to be a key part of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a practice session on early August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
