Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
