Latest Oil Plant Strike Shows 'Absolutely No Protected Locations in the Russian Far Hinterland'
Ukraine's UAVs have targeted Russia's Bashneft processing plant in Ufa, positioned approximately 1,400 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, causing detonations and a blaze, per a source in Ukraine's SBU.
This marks the latest Ukrainian security service far-reaching assault in Bashkortostan in the last month. Such attacks demonstrate that there are no safe places in the deep rear of the Russian state.
Zelenskyy Appeals to US President to Broker Ceasefire in Ukraine
The Ukrainian leader called on Donald Trump to broker peace in Ukraine over a phone call on Saturday.
"If a conflict can be ended in one region, then undoubtedly further hostilities can be halted as well, covering the conflict with Russia," he said, hailing Trump's "remarkable" Gaza truce proposal and requesting the US president to compel the Kremlin into negotiations.
Russian Assaults Claim Lives in the Country
Moscow's assaults on Ukrainian territory killed at least 5 individuals on Saturday and disrupted electricity to sections of Ukraine's southern Odesa area, according to local sources.
Two people were killed within a place of worship in the town when it was hit, as reported by regional officials.
In the Russian border region of Belgorod, a lorry operator was killed by a Ukrainian strike, according to municipal sources.
Energy Repair Efforts in Kyiv
Efforts carried on on the weekend to restore power in the Ukrainian capital, after assaults.
Energy had been returned to in excess of 800,000 inhabitants by the weekend and the biggest private energy company said the primary efforts to repair the grid was finished though certain disruptions persisted.
Air Defence Operations and UAV Interceptions
Ukraine's defense forces intercepted or jammed 54 out of 78 total UAVs from Russia deployed against Ukraine in the dark hours, the air force announced on the weekend.
Russia's military authorities said it shot down 42 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory.
Cuban Government Denies Allegations of Deploying Soldiers to the War
Havana on the weekend denied American claims it has deployed soldiers to fight in the conflict in Ukraine, while declaring the government "lack accurate information about individuals" participating "independently" or "as part of the armed units of either party".
The government department in Havana stated twenty-six nationals had been sentenced to prison terms varying between five to 14 years for mercenary activity since last September when news emerged of individuals being sent to the front in Ukraine.
I Want to Live Initiative Reports Data on Cuban National Involvement
The program, a state program that encourages opposing fighters to give up, reported in May: "Our information indicates the names and personal details of over a thousand Cuban nationals who entered into agreements with the Moscow's troops in the past two years."
The Cuban authorities commented of those who might be involved: "It is irrefutable that not a single one possesses the backing, allegiance, or consent of the government in Havana for their involvement."
Kin of Cuban nationals who left for Russia in 2023 told international media at the time that their loved ones had been tricked into joining through advertisements on digital networks.
