Wilfried Nancy declared he did not fear dismissal, maintaining, “We are extremely close to changing our fortunes,” even after edging perilously close to the exit with a convincing defeat by Rangers.

A Second-Half Capitulation Results in Derby Loss

Celtic were ahead Rangers at the break but a disastrous second period enabled the Gers to pull level on points with the defending league title holders. The French coach, who was appointed in December, has now overseen six losses in his last eight matches.

“We are together at the club,” stated Nancy.

Asked directly about his own future, Nancy replied: “I don’t think about it. I think about working out methods to aid my players to be good on details.

Celtic’s support made their feelings clear – towards the dugout and directors – by gathering at full time. The board are thought to be considering to re-appoint the former boss, who had a fruitful temporary stint last year, should a change be made.

“The outcomes [that leads to pressure]. That is the truth for the moment. Yet by saying this is the reality, that is not a sign that I am a defeatist guy. Absolutely not. The message is the turnaround is near, extremely close to turn things around.”

“Really, Really Close”

The coach highlights the fact Celtic play well for 45 minutes at a time. In fact, if not for poor finishing they could have been more than 1-0 up. “I saw enough other than the fact that we missed a second goal,” he said. “I accept that we lost, but it's important to stay objective.

“The standard we had at certain moments was exceptionally high. That is a fact. I wouldn't say that if it was different. That is the reason, when it comes to wins, I noted we've seen this before. For that reason I feel we are nearly there to a shift in fortunes. Currently: the fine margins.”

“I saw many, many good things that we did, once more. However comes down to consistency. My narrative would not be if I didn't believe it. This is why I am a big believer we’re going to be able to get back on track.”

Opposition Reaction Outlook

The victorious boss was cautious about a serious challenge even after what felt like a huge result. “One match at a time, and we can gradually build momentum,” he said. “The faith in the group is immense.”
