British Designer Antony Price, Renowned for Designing for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.
He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."
Price's death comes just weeks after he debuted his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Lasting Legacy
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to blend menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in crafting body-hugging looks established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the UK's fashion authority.
In the 1990s, he began working on pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including several ensembles for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.
With a vocation that covered half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.
