Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his future after another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known failings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period like this with outcomes this poor.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to the top, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
