A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the beginning of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
